Alpina

The Alpina project (stylized alpina.wiki) is a collaborative online encyclopedia in which anyone can propose an edit, but nothing is published until the community confirms it. It pairs the open-contribution spirit of Wikipedia with an explicit peer-review step, so the barrier to contribute stays low while the barrier to publish unreviewed content stays high.

#Overview

Alpina is written and reviewed by people, not by language models. Every article and every edit begins life as a draft; it becomes part of the public encyclopedia only once enough trusted contributors — and, where needed, staff — have confirmed it. The number of confirmations required scales with the author's reputation and the size of the active community, while automated filters flag suspected spam or abuse for human review.

The name and visual identity draw on The Alps — the mountain range that gives the project its sense of a shared climb toward better, verified knowledge.

#How it works

1. Propose — write a new article or edit an existing one. It is saved as a draft and is never published instantly.
2. Confirm — trusted contributors and staff review the draft and confirm it. The threshold adapts to author reputation and community size.
3. Publish — once the threshold is met, the draft goes live, with full revision history and the option to cite sources.

Articles are written in a lightweight Markdown dialect. Links to other articles use double brackets, and images accept an optional {width,align} attribute:

#History

Alpina was created in 2026 as a friendlier, review-first alternative for contributors who find traditional wikis intimidating to edit. Its guiding idea is that lowering the friction to write must not mean lowering the bar for quality — the confirmation model is what keeps the two apart.
